What Is the Difference Between ABA and BCBA?
ABA and BCBA are closely related, but they are not the same thing. ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis. It is a science-based therapy approach used to help children with autism build communication, social, and daily living skills while reducing challenging behaviors. ABA is the treatment method.
A BCBA, on the other hand, is a professional title. It stands for Board Certified Behavior Analyst. A BCBA is a highly trained clinician who designs, oversees, and adjusts ABA therapy programs. They complete graduate-level education, thousands of supervised clinical hours, and must pass a national certification exam.
In simple terms, ABA is the therapy, and a BCBA is the expert who creates and supervises the therapy plan. BCBAs assess the child, set goals, train therapists, and monitor progress to ensure the treatment is effective and individualized. ABA therapists then carry out these plans during sessions with the child.
At Milestone Achievements, both play essential roles. Without ABA, there are no structured ABA therapy options in Georgia. Without a BCBA, there is no clinical direction or quality oversight.
